GREEK MYTHOLOGIES VS INDONESIAN MYTHOLOGIES CREATURES

Greek
Centaurs
Centaurs are half-human, half-horse creatures in Greek mythology. They have the body of a horse and the torso, head and arms of a man. They were considered to be the children of Ixion , king of the Lapiths, and Nephele , a cloud made in the image of Hera . Centaurs were said to be primal, existing in tribes and making their homes in caves, hunting wild animals and arming themselves with rocks and tree branches. One of the best known centaurs is Chiron or Cheiron , a wise centaur . Although most centaurs were depicted as lustful and wild, Chiron was a notable exception; modest and civilised, he was known for his medicinal skills and teaching abilities. He lived on Mount Pelion in Thessaly and was the tutor of a number of Greek mythical characters such as Achilles and Aesculapius .

Zeus
Zeus was the god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods. He overthrew his father, Cronus , and then drew lots with his brothers Poseidon and
Hades , in order to decide who would succeed their father on the throne. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme ruler of the gods, as well as lord of the sky and rain. His weapon was a thunderbolt which he hurled at those who displeased or defied him, especially liars and oathbreakers. He was married to Hera but often tested her patience, as he was infamous for his many affairs.
Zeus , the presiding deity of the universe, ruler of the skies and the earth, was regarded by the Greeks as the god of all natural phenomena on the sky; the personification of the laws of nature; the ruler of the state; and finally, the father of gods and men.
Using his shield, the Aegis , Zeus could create all natural phenomena related to the air and the sky, such as storms, tempests, and intense darkness. At his command, mighty thunders would flash and lightnings would roll, wreaking havoc; or the skies would open to rejuvenate the earth with life-giving water.

Pegasus
Pegasus was a flying horse in Greek mythology, usually depicted as white coloured. His father was Poseidon and his mother was the Gorgon Medusa ; he was born along with his brother Chrysaor when Medusa was decapitated by Perseus. Pegasus was captured and tamed by the Greek hero Bellerophon and helped him in his fights against the Chimera and the Amazons . Some say he stroked the ground with his foot and caused the fountain Hippocrene to flow from Mount Helicon.

Poseidon
Poseidon is the god of the sea and protector of all aquatic features. The son of Kronos and Rhea and the elder brother of Zeus , Poseidon was generally regarded as an ill-tempered being, with his mood serving as a reflection of the state of his realm, as he was thought to conjure up violent storms at sea when angered. Lord of the waters, Poseidon served as both patron and protector of both sailors and seafarers, who would pray to him for safe passage across the sea. Poseidon was often regarded as the “Father of Horses. Otherwise known as the Earth-Shaker. Poseidon was thought to be the cause of such disasters, striking the Earth with his trident (a three-pronged spear) whenever he was particularly enraged. The god's symbol was his trident and the bull , horse and dolphin were his sacred animals. The god Neptune is his Roman equivalent.

Sphinx
Sphinx In Greek tradition , it has the head of a human, the haunches of a lion, and sometimes the wings of a bird . It is mythicised as treacherous and merciless. Those who cannot answer its riddle suffer a fate typical in such mythological stories, as they are killed and eaten by this ravenous monster. In Greek mythology , a sphinx is represented as a monster with a head of a woman, the body of a lioness, the wings of an eagle , and a serpent-headed tail.

 Indonesian Mythologies
Garuda
Garuda is described as the king of birds and a Kite -like figure. [5][6] He is shown either in zoomorphic form (giant bird with partially open wings) or an anthropomorphic form (man with wings and some bird features). Garuda is generally a protector with power to swiftly go anywhere, ever watchful and an enemy of the serpent.
In the Mahabharata, Garutman is stated to be same as Garuda, then described as the one who is fast, who can shapeshift into any form and enter anywhere. [10] He is a powerful creature in the epics, whose wing flapping can stop the spinning of heaven, earth and hell. He is described to be the vehicle mount of the Hindu god Vishnu , and typically they are shown together.

Lembuswana
Lembuswana is a legendary creature appearing in Kutai mythology of Indonesia. It is described as being a lion-headed horse with an adorning crown, having an elephant-like trunk, a pair of Garuda wings, and fish-like scales. It is considered holy because it was ridden by Bathara Guru who was the Supreme god or what locals would call “Dewa” in Indonesian mythologies which are very influenced by Hinduism.
The creature is a mythological creature specifically for the people of Kutai in Kalimantan. It is also currently the Kutai mascot and has been since long ago when Kutai was still a Sultanate Kingdom.

Nyai roro kidul
Nyai Loro Kidul (also spelled Nyi Roro Kidul ) is an Indonesian goddess of the sea. She is the Queen of the Southern Sea ( Indian Ocean ) in Javanese and Sundanese mythology. Nyai Loro Kidul is often illustrated as a mermaid with a tail as well as the lower body parts of a fish. The mythical creature is claimed to be able to take the soul of any who she wished for. [5] According to local popular beliefs around coastal villages on Southern Java, the Queen often claim lives of fishermen or visitors that bathe on the beach, and she usually prefers handsome young men.
The role of Nyai Loro Kidul as a Javanese Spirit-Queen became a popular motif in traditional Javanese folklore and palace mythologies, as well as being tied in with the beauty of Sundanese and Javanese princesses. Another aspect of her mythology was her ability to change shape several times a day. Nyai Loro Kidul in a significant amount of the folklore that surrounds her - is in control of the violent waves of the Indian Ocean from her dwelling place in the heart of the ocean. When all is set and done, she would leave gold flakes on the beach as a reward. The man would then be wealthy from the gold but right before death, the person’s soul would somehow be taken and cursed to be her man-slave forever.
